On the night of 26th March 2023, the eclectic musical project known as Igorrr graced the stage of Backstage Werk in Munich, and delivered a performance that transcended the conventional boundaries of genre​¹​. Under the mastermind Gautier Serre, Igorrr has evolved from a solo endeavor into a full-fledged band, creating a unique blend of black metal, baroque music, breakcore, and trip hop that challenges the conventional musical narratives​²​. This live performance in Munich was no exception, embodying a confluence of disparate musical realms.

The Igorrr project metamorphosed into a band with the addition of vocalists Aphrodite Patoulidou and JB Le Bail, drummer Sylvain Bouvier, guitarist Martyn Clément, and bassist Erlend Caspersen. With a background rich in musical exploration, Igorrr’s compositions reflect a deep-rooted appreciation for a spectrum of musical genres, initially drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Meshuggah, Chopin, Cannibal Corpse, Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Taraf de Haidouks and Aphex Twin​³​​⁴​.

Gautier Serre, the linchpin of Igorrr, has always been about breaking the mold. His solo work, which spanned from 2005 to 2016, was about exploring the uncharted musical territories, making music that he wanted to listen to, unrestricted by the expectations of others​⁵​. The expansion to a full band in 2017 brought a new dimension to Igorrr’s music, with the release of “Savage Sinusoid” marking a significant milestone in their musical journey. The album, devoid of samples, was a collaborative effort with members of Cattle Decapitation and Secret Chiefs 3, showcasing a fusion of death metal, baroque, and other genres in a way that garnered critical acclaim​⁵​.

The Munich concert was part of Igorrr’s 2023 tour, which also featured bands like Amenra, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, and Hangman’s Chair, making the event a celebration of musical diversity and innovation​⁶​. Although the setlist from the Munich concert is yet to be published, the musical genius of Igorrr promises a night filled with aural explorations that defy categorization​⁷​.
